Not for me the Wilds

Barbara Carr

Not for me the WIlds

Here is Benjamin Bennett's comment on the manuscript: "Many thanks for giving me the opportunity of reading Barbara Carr's Not for Me the Wilds. I can honestly say I have not read a more brilliantly written and absorbing book for some time. . . as you know, I review a large number of books for the Argus. Mrs. Carr has a natural gift and flair for writing. Her descriptive powers are outstanding and her story with her hunter-husband in the wilds, their encounters with lion, elephant and other animals, her pen pictures of Nature in the raw are vivid and gripping. I feel too that her book will or should prove an eye opener to those who believe that all natives in the African Continent are really like medieaval Englishmen who, unfortunately, happen to be black and, given the opportunity, education (and the vote) would think, feel and act like the English working classes of today. Perhaps this forthright book will upset certain readers in England who simply "don't want to know" and who insist in their noral rectitude that millions of Africans who still lead primitive md barbaric lives, should be sent immediately to the polls to vote ike the Englishman after centuries of evolution and hard-won democracy. May I wish you and Mrs. Carr every success with this splendid, musual and hard-hitting book which in my humble opinion, should reach the best-seller class."
