The White Men Sang

The White Men Sang

This is a novel but is based accurately on an epic incident in Rhodesian history..

On the afternoon of December 3rd, 1893, Major Allan Wilson led his patrol of volunteers across the rising Shangani River in pursuit of King Lobengula. They soon found themselves shut off by the enemy and the River. A plea for reinforcements was not answered in sufficient strength.

At dawn the Matabele hordes began to close in. rather than leave the wounded to their fate, the 34 men stood and fought against 7,000.

They fought for nearly 12 hours, killing over ten times their number. When eventually only 6 were left standing they sang "God Save The Queen" and faced their final fate.

Their remains are interred in a special Mausoleum at World's View in the Matopos, near the grave of Cecil Rhodes.

The books is a 1st edition, hardcover in good condition. This books comes with a copy of the 1972 full-feature movieThe Shangani Patrol
