When the book THE WILD GEESE came out in the 1970's it was a smash hit within Rhodesia. The story of a group of mercenaries sent to rescue an African leader, the hope of his country, who was about to be executed. The story resonated with the Rhodesians, who could identify with the evils of black distatorships to their North.
Made into a hit movie starring Richard Burton and an all-star cast, it still evokes strong feelings in all those who lived and fought during those turbulent years.
THE WILD GEESE II soon followed and was again made into a movie. It did not quite have the impact of the first book and movie, but remained a great story of Africa today.
Daniel Carney was a Rhodesian author of note, his books were written about Africa and Rhodesia in particular, they include: The Whispering Death (also made into a hit movie) and Under a Ragining Sky, which can also be obtained through this web-site.
