TULI REVISITED.
The small outpost of Tuli plays a very special role in the history
of Rhodesia/Zimbabwe. This is where the Pioneer Column
laagered before crossing into Matabeleland. They were
met by Lobengula's warriors, but managed to avoid bloodshed. It
was here that the first Fort was established by the Column.
At the end of July, Karl & Denise Hurry, together with Rod &
Anne Tourle revisited Tuli. The Police Station,
the Pioneer Cemetry - it is all in their story that follow.
First though, some photographs taken by W. Ellerton Fry of the
Pioneer Column and Fort Tuli. These are from his original
book The Occupation
of Mashonaland published in 1890. |
