The building of the Kariba Dam on the Zambezi River has to go down as one of the greatest engineering feats ever undertaken by man. Hundeds of mils in the middle of nowhere, every piece of equipment has to be trucked in, complete construction plants had to be built and the mighty Zambezi had to be stopped.

The River threw everything in its power against the work, but in the end was tamed. The Dam was opened by the Queen Mother in 1960, bringing to an end a mighty undertaking.

This is the story of those fateful years.
