As the wall of the Kariba Dam rose in he late 1950's, so did the waters behind it, creating islands from hilltops, stranding thousands of wild animal and eventually over-running them. Facing mass destruction of the wildlife of the Zambezi Valley, the Rhodesian Game Department carried out a massive animal rescue and relocation program for several years. It was Operation Noah.
