THE SAINTS©

The Rhodesian Light Infantry

The Rhodesian Light Infantry were one of the premier fighting units of the Rhodesian Army. One of the few regular battalions, it consisted entirely of Europeans. Originally a light infantry unit it transitioned to a commando battalion and found its forte in the bush war of the 1970's.

Created at the breakup of the Federation in 1962, the RLI, or The Saints as they were known, soon earned a reputation for ferocity and bravery. They were the ultimate bush warriors and perfected the art of Fire Force.

Presented with the Queens Colors, which were unique within the Commonwealth in design, at the beginning of their tenure, they laid those Colors to rest in a final parade held in October 1980 and the Battalion was then disbanded.

They were the only Colors in the Rhodesian Army not to have any battle honors them.
