THE LAND INVASIONS
In 2001 the "war veterans" started what they called The Third Chimurenga. This was the great land grab where thousands of commercial farms were illegally seized, their owners and workers displaced. Murder, arson, violence, theft, fear and intimidation. A total breakdown of law - all instigated by the Government to take over the land.
It was not unexpected. In the 1970's Robert Mugabe, Edgar Tekere and Edson Zvobgo all gave interviews in which they spelled out their idea of a socialist utopia which included the land seizure.
